Wood, carbon, or PVC: choosing your card finish
Compare the look and practical use of a finish without losing sight of legibility.
Choose the character you want
Wood brings visible grain and a warm appearance. Carbon offers a dark technical look. PVC can provide a clean base for printed color. These are visual choices, not a ranking of which material makes someone more professional. Start with the impression that fits your work.
Design for the actual surface
Fine pale text can disappear against a light grain; very dark artwork can disappear on carbon. Give your name and primary information enough separation from the surface. Keep QR artwork clear of decorative textures and test the finished result rather than trusting a screen preview.
Check the specific product
Thickness, coating, printing method, and care requirements depend on the individual card. Do not assume that every wood card or every metal-looking finish behaves the same way. Read the selected product description and ask about any requirements that matter for your use.
Make a practical shortlist
Compare the same simple design across your preferred materials. A restrained design often makes the material easier to appreciate. If you are ordering a batch, review a production sample when available before committing to the whole run.
- Check small text at the physical card size.
- Choose contrast before decorative effects.
- Keep the QR margin clear.
- Follow the supplied care instructions.
